SEO Contract Work for E-commerce Brand ‘Remarkable Outdoor Living’

Project Overview

During my year-long contract with Remarkable Outdoor Living, a premium outdoor furniture retailer in Australia, I worked as their exclusive SEO Specialist, focused on increasing qualified organic traffic and driving online sales. Throughout my work, I collaborated closely with both the Head of eCommerce and Head of Marketing to execute a comprehensive SEO strategy tailored to their commercial goals.

My role encompassed on-page SEO (including collection page optimisation, store location page enhancements, and blog content), off-page SEO (such as targeted backlink acquisition, Google Maps improvements, and partnerships for digital PR), and technical SEO. I addressed and resolved critical issues like 4xx errors, soft 404s, redirect chains, and schema optimisation to improve crawlability and indexation.

While digital PR was originally a core focus, evolving priorities saw me concentrate primarily on SEO execution and documentation. I developed and refined internal SOPs to support the marketing team’s long-term success, laying a scalable foundation for future growth.

Ongoing SEO Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with marketing leadership to align SEO efforts with broader business and marketing objectives
  • Monitoring and reporting on search performance using Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and Semrush
  • Providing ad hoc SEO guidance and research support to the wider team as needed
  • Managing SEO-related tasks for brand collaborations
  • Keeping the broader team informed of relevant SEO updates and changes
  • Updating monthly keyword position tracking in a shared team worksheet using Semrush data
  • Leading and directing on-page SEO, off-page SEO, and technical SEO initiatives to ensure a balanced and comprehensive SEO approach

On-Page SEO Responsibilities

  • Conducting on-page SEO optimisations across the entire website, including product category pages, key landing pages (e.g. sales events), and blog content
  • Driving blog content strategy, including creating briefs, writing and publishing posts, and reviewing content produced by others
  • Leading all SEO optimisations for seasonal and promotional sales event pages, including both landing and collection pages

Off-Page SEO Responsibilities

  • Regularly checking journalist request platforms for digital PR opportunities and submitting responses where applicable
  • Leading the link acquisition plan
  • Updating Google Business Profile hours during special events and seasonal changes

Technical SEO Responsibilities

  • Running weekly Screaming Frog crawls to proactively monitor the site and surface technical alerts
  • Consistently monitoring and resolving 4xx status codes using Screaming Frog
  • Monitoring and resolving soft 404s flagged in Google Search Console
  • Monitoring product deactivations daily to ensure timely redirects and SEO continuity
  • Watching for any notable alerts or anomalies from Google Search Console on an ongoing basis

Performance and Results

Please note: Out of respect for the client and in accordance with the terms of our contract, I’ve redacted sensitive data such as exact figures for clicks, impressions, revenue, and keyword rankings. Instead, performance is presented in terms of relative growth (e.g. percentage increases) to demonstrate impact without disclosing internal metrics.

  • All 9 store location pages saw a combined +44.17% increase in impressions

  • Streamlined internal processes by creating centralised SEO SOPs, reducing time and effort across the team

  • Improved user experience and search relevance by developing highly targeted collection pages with optimised keywords, helpful content, and FAQs to support purchase decisions
  • Enhanced blog content quality and authority by revamping underdeveloped posts and ensuring they delivered useful, keyword-aligned information, positioning RMKB as an industry leader

  • Significantly improved site accessibility by implementing SEO-optimised image alt text across thousands of image instances

  • Reduced friction for users and search engines by identifying and resolving soft 404s and 4xx errors

  • Strengthened the site’s backlink profile through carefully vetted, contextually relevant link acquisition from reputable external domains

  • Supported brand authority by helping position RMKB as the exclusive Australian retailer of Couture Jardin, elevating its profile in both luxury and commercial outdoor furniture markets

  • Enhanced local SEO performance by auditing and optimising all Google Business Profiles and developing rich, location-specific landing pages for each store

  • Improved search engine understanding and visibility through the implementation of comprehensive schema markup, increasing the likelihood of rich results and higher click-through rates

  • Contributed to future growth strategy by conducting in-depth SEO research and reporting to support potential expansion into new regions (SA, NT, and WA)
